Disco Music is very moving, energetic and upbeat.Disco dance music can be traced back to the 1960's but wasn't at its peak of popularity until the 70's With the genres main audience consisting of gays, black men, and Latinos, Disco became a genre strongly tied to Afro hairstyles, skintight bootcut pants, flashy clothes, funky accesories, colorful lights, disco balls of course and amazing choreographies. The music mainly consisted of groovy bass lines, funky rythm guitars, loud, definitive keyboard playing and not-so-typical-but-recognizable groovy drums.Disco was seen as a stand against the rising popularity of rock music. According to worldatlas.com "Some analysts have asserted that disco is as a result of a reaction against the dominance of the rock music as well as stigmatization of the dance music by the counterculture that emerged during that time." Disco Music is widely known for being played in clubs. This all started because when rock music was being played, gay or straight men were being harassed by police. "A city DJ, David Mancuso held private underground house parties and was connected that no police raids were conducted in any of his businesses. He did this to create an ample environment for men to dance together without the fear of police action." This became news all around NYC and this "act made the genre popular among the gay community". With Disco gaining popularity, and the song "Love Train" topping the Billboard Charts artists whose genre was NOT mainly disco, started making disco songs.Although the blaze that the genre led slowly died down or faded away, we can still see how its influenced modern music. Dave Grohl, former Nirvana drummer and lead singer of the Foo Fighters has talked about how his drums on the hit single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by his former band were greatly inspired by The Gap Band. StereoGum says "“I’m the most basic fucking drummer,” Grohl told Pharrell. “If you listen to Nevermind … the Nirvana record … I pulled so much stuff from the Gap Band and Cameo and [Chic]’s Tony Thompson on every one of those songs. All that … that’s old disco!” The show helpfully plays a bit of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” followed by a bit of the Gap Band’s “Burn Rubber.” Dave Grohl talks about "ripping off" Gap Band
